Week 6: Poster Design

Abstract: This article delves into seven fundamental principles of poster design: emphasis, balance and alignment, contrast, repetition, proportion, movement, and white space. Understanding and applying these principles enables designers to create visually compelling and effective works.

  • Emphasis: This principle highlights the most crucial aspects of a design, guiding the viewer's attention to what matters most. Techniques such as size, color, and placement can enhance emphasis, ensuring key messages are immediately noticed.

  • Contrast: Utilizing contrast not only enhances the visual appeal but also clarifies the distinctions between various elements. By playing with colors, shapes, and sizes, designers can create a dynamic interplay that draws the eye and reinforces important information.

  • Repetition: Consistency is vital in design. Repetition of certain elements—like colors, fonts, or shapes—creates a sense of unity and coherence. This principle helps establish a recognizable theme, making the overall design more memorable.

  • Proportion: This principle involves the visual relationship between elements within the design. By considering the size and weight of each component, designers can create a balanced layout that feels harmonious and structured.

Exercise. PROJECT 1B - PART 2: Recoloring Black and White

    EXERCISE 1
    Brush over the face

    Exercise 2

    Reflection:

Experience:I imported the materials provided by the instructor into Photoshop and used the selection tool to outline the shape of the hair. In the "Select and Mask" feature, I made precise adjustments before adding a solid color based on the hair color from the provided materials. I applied this method sequentially to complete the entire design.

Observations:In addition to the technique suggested by the instructor, I discovered several other tools that can achieve similar effects, such as brush fills and the magnetic selection tool. These tools offer greater flexibility and creative possibilities.

Findings:I learned how to effectively fill colors in Photoshop and gained proficiency in using color blocks. These skills have made my design process much smoother and more intuitive.
