Exercises

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

My name is WANG JINYI. Although I am of Chinese nationality, I was born and raised in Malaysia. My upbringing has profoundly influenced me with a rich tapestry of multicultural experiences, nurturing my values of freedom, equality, and brotherhood.

PARAGRAPH 1

I have a close connection to nature and enjoy the tranquility and inspiration it brings. I also occasionally read, doodle, and play the piano, which allows me to find moments of comfort and ease amid a busy life.

PARAGRAPH 2

I have a strong passion for art, having loved drawing since childhood and continuously exploring aesthetics and techniques. My artistic journey stems from a desire to create and express myself. From an early age, I aspired to be a free artistic creator; compared to a salaried job, I prioritize the feelings and experiences I have during the creative process.

SUMMARY

In my view, artistic creation is a form of free exploration rather than a constrained task. I enjoy discovering inspiration in uncertain environments, embracing trial and error, and ultimately finding the style that best expresses who I am. I believe that creation should be limitless, representing a form of inner freedom and release.

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

My poster may use surrealism or abstract styles, which are artistic expressions I truly enjoy.

PARAGRAPH 1

In my poster, I want to convey the theme of the hidden inner child. Many people, as they grow up, find that their vibrant inner world gradually gets covered by the black-and-white reality.

PARAGRAPH 2

Through art, I hope to communicate an important message: we need to learn to release our inner child and rediscover that sense of innocence, playfulness, and joy.

SUMMARY

I want to express "Release Your True Self." I hope this work will inspire people to embrace their inner authenticity, let go of their innocence and joy, and find color and fun in life.

3. Study and gather all related information about your topic.

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: Inner Child

ARTIST STATEMENT:

In my work, I explore the contrast between the monotony of daily life and the vibrant essence of our inner child. The piece depicts a single figure seated at a desk, embodying the feelings of boredom and routine. However, from the computer bursts forth a colorful smoke, representing the joyful release of creativity and imagination.

This explosion of color is filled with whimsical crayon-like patterns—fireworks, flowers, and hearts—that dance in the air, symbolizing the playful and carefree spirit that often gets overshadowed by adult responsibilities. The juxtaposition of the drab office setting against the lively elements serves as a reminder that within each of us lies an innate desire for joy, play, and self-expression.

Through this artwork, I invite viewers to reconnect with their inner child, encouraging them to embrace creativity and find delight in the mundane. It’s a celebration of the vibrant possibilities that exist when we allow ourselves to break free from the constraints of everyday life.

Working with After Effects to create dynamic effects for my colorful poster was a lot of fun. I loved adding animations like spinning fireworks and floating smoke, which really brought out the playful theme.
