REFLECTION

Experience

Completing these tasks gave me a much deeper understanding of how Design Research Methodology works in practice. I learned how to move systematically from identifying and observing a problem, formulating research questions, conducting a critical literature review, designing survey questions with clear justifications, to collecting and analyzing data. This process was completely new to me, and I really enjoyed how structured and logical the workflow became once I understood the framework. It helped me appreciate that research is not only about finding answers, but also about asking the right questions and validating them with evidence.

Observation

Since my specialisation is Entertainment Design, I chose to explore “The Role of Entertainment Design in Creating Emotionally Engaging and Reflective Experiences.” This topic allowed me to dive into how animation balances artistic intent with emotional storytelling under commercial pressure. However, I observed that one of the biggest challenges was designing effective questions and achieving the target of at least 80 participants in a limited timeframe. At first, I worried that my topic and the chosen film were too new and trendy, as many respondents had not yet watched or heard about it. This could have made it difficult to validate my research topic. Fortunately, I was still able to collect a substantial amount of responses, which provided enough data to support my analysis.

Findings

Overall, this project taught me how important it is to align every stage of research with the objective. I also realized that question justification is essential, not just for clarity, but for ensuring that the data collected truly supports the research goal. I feel proud of overcoming the difficulties of time management and data collection, and I enjoyed the entire process because it allowed me to combine creative thinking with analytical skills.
